The Application of Terrestrial Light Detection and Ranging to Forest Resource Inventories for Timber Yield and Carbon Sink Estimation

New technologies are utilized to improve forest management, but they require the collection and analysis of digital data. This study assessed applicability using light detection ranging (LiDAR) devices for examination resource inventories obtain information. Two terrestrial LiDARs, a backpack laser scanner (BPLS) (TLS) were used compared with traditional method identify which was optimal. The findings showed that TLS single-scan least accurate due occlusion. multi-scan BPLS high levels accuracy height diameter at breast (DBH) estimates in most sample plots. However, underestimated greater extent than other methods sloped plot (24°). Nevertheless, efficiency 2.8 times higher when considering amount time spent on completing all indoor outdoor tasks. Thus, these results prove utilization LiDAR increases data overcomes limitations existing methods.
